Bhul Raasta, a play by Badal Sircar, uses a popular folk form like Nautanki to narrate a story steeped in epic tradition, creating a conflict of form and content in presenting a critique of power and its multiple versions of glorifying narratives . The story is that of a prince's expedition in search of a rare fruit which can cure his mother's sickness. The expedition, which begins with numerous unmistakable markers of royal and divine glorification, goes wrong, resulting in the isolation of the prince from his company. This marks the beginning of a new journey for the prince as he goes astray, taking the "Bhul Raasta" or the "Wrong Path" to destiny. With this play, Sircar presents a scathing critique of power and its narratives that has dominated the history of the human race since time immemorial.

Stranger in every way is a play where philosophy and dramatics intersects.philosophy which is influenced by firstly, existentialism and secondly by phenomenology. This is the only work which we can say a complete incarnation of the absurd. The stranger," who, in the days after his mother's death, goes swimming, takes a mistress, becomes involved with a disreputable neighbor, kills a Nepali for no good reason; is judged guilty for the wrong reasons and sentenced to death. Events and style are one in this play which unfolds in a series of monotonous moments of the sameintensity. Only in the scenes at the beach and in the last moments of the play as protagonist waits hisexecution is there any hint of fullness or communion.

It is 1940s Bengal. A starving village of weavers going without work. Madan is the master weaver, a fine artist. Will he take the moneylender’s offer and weave cheap loincloth, or die a slow death? The night’s silence is broken by the sound of running loom from Madan’s hut. The villagers gather. Has Madan given in? Madan comes out. He did not betray his fellow villagers, he says. His legs had developed cramps from sitting idle for so many days, so he ran an empty loom all night. Madan did not betray his art either. There was a saying in the village ‘The day Madan will weave a loincloth’. An empty loom ran, no cheap stuff was made.

Nabarun’s writings introduced a strange set of human beings to Bengali readers, called Fyataru, who are an underclass fond of sabotage and are capable of flying whenever they utter the mantra FyantFyantSnaiSnai. Fyatarurs’ targets are rich peoples, corrupted politicians and businessmen and also the hypocrite intellectuals. But their subversion is totally without bloodshed.

The dialectic between creation and consumption gains a sharp aspect when the perception of ‘desire’ turns into ‘lust’. As the ‘subject’ of creation becomes ‘object’ of ownership, the relation between the two factors indulges into newer contradictions. This allegorical play deals with the age-old dialectic between creative forces, symbolically and keeping social history in mind, represented by women; and the consumers represented by men, so far the leaders and owners of resource, women as well as champions of all destruction. While the culture of war, destruction and accelerating trend of consumption is very much in vogue, an alternative culture pre-dominated by creators, the women, soul of nature mother brings about a new way of protecting culture of creation.
